Gun Confiscations Start in NYC

Suck on it, blue-staters:

The memo reads:
1. Immediately surrender your Rifle and/or Shotgun to your local police precinct, and notify this office of the invoice number. The firearm may be sold or permanently removed from the City of New York thereafter.

2. Permanently remove your Rifle and/or Shotgun from New York City…

[…]

3. You may call to discuss the matter if you believe your firearm is in compliance, or you may request the option to bring your firearm to a licensed gunsmith for a permanent modification and certification proving that it is permanently modified and in compliance.
I'm at the point now where the death of liberty in vibrant blue states no longer concerns me, insofar as I may need to transit one. They get the government they voted for. Bill Price at the Spearhead nailed it in a column from a few months ago, titled "The Con Baiting Game". To wit:
As much of a problem as urban crime is, it isn’t generally [a conservative] problem. A white liberal in Washington or New York is far more likely to be a victim of a violent interracial crime than a Republican in rural Virginia or upstate New York. Arch-progressive Matthew Yglesias was jumped and beat up in DC a couple years back by a gang of young black men. A recent article in Salon, written by a young progressive named Brian Beutler, gives a first-hand account of being shot during a robbery. This kind of thing happens every day in blue cities — not in red territory. But if you think these incidents change people’s minds, you’d be wrong. The progressives hold fast to the party line even after being shot.

Conservatives need to learn to identify this little game and stop playing along. Instead of falling into the same tired old arguments that will never end, let the urban whites have a taste of their own medicine. Do they call for “tolerance” and an end to police abuse? OK, call their bluff. Hamstring their police departments and start cutting prison budgets. Also, stop paying attention to petty vice such as prostitution and street dealers. It’s amazing how quickly a neighborhood (and property values) will go to hell when you let the street hookers and small time dealers operate with impunity. For good measure, limit cities’ power to shut down “nuisance” businesses. Can you imagine the look on the face of a SWPL condo owner when a new dance club opens down the street, keeping him up at night with heavy bass beats punctuated by occasional bursts of gunfire and wailing sirens?
Blue New Yorkers want to make it so that only the police and vibrant gangsters have guns, with the unarmed law-abiding as victims-in-waiting? Okay, I say let 'em have what they want. For righties caught in blue territory, if you don't like it, go. There are plenty of jobs in freer red states, and many, many companies are fleeing blue-state taxation and regulation and moving to places like Texas, Utah, etc.

Sometimes the best medicine to give liberalists is to refuse to save them from the reductio-ad-absurdum consequences of their own ideology.

DeBlasio will give them all they want, and then some. NYPDs Top Man resigned rather than be fired and the back-scratching appointments to top positions will only be the tip of the 'berg that will sink New York.

I predict a rapid comeback for Times Square's porn theatres and jack parlors and all of the attendant vice. It never really went away, it just wasn't permitted to show itself in the light of day among respectable people.

I don't think it would matter. Based on the few hard left progressives I know, they absolutely do not understand cause and effect. Any disaster resulting from one of the idiotic schemes they support only causes them to clamor for more government programs/funding to fix it. They will literally go down with the ship.

Of course, that only applies to middle class leftists. Our wealthy progressive ruling elite are all safely ensconced in their gated communities.

I recommend they All go to Texas. It's farther away, but worth the trip. They should not under any circumstances bring their tainted Blue State attitudes to Virginia. We already have enough of them here from the last 20 years of migration.

Oh. I also hear the Dakotas are nice this time of year.

No one is gonna confiscate your " guns ". You can have your " guns " if you want, but you won't be able to have an AR-15 with banana clips. It's different than " confiscating your guns ". Stop trying to panic folks with this nonsense. Or..... move someplace where the laws suit you.

Isn't that hilarious? I mean, if it weren't so tragic? They create the disaster (welfare, single motherhood, violent crime), only to propose more of the snake oil that created the issue in the first place.

Big Government: it is the liberal's self-licking ice cream cone.

On second thought, perhaps not. Texas has enough to worry about with all those illegally imported Democrat voters.

Perhaps blue state boat people can be admitted on condition that they don't vote for 10 years...long enough hopefully to let their blue state habits and attitudes die on the vine.

@ Blax,

May I propose some reasonable restrictions on the "right"--note I used the scary quotes, just like you did--to an abortion?

How 'bout only abortions that women "need", like if they're raped or have consensual sex with someone in their immmediate family?

Think of all the innocent lives we could save.

If you like your guns, you can keep them. Period. **

** unless they fail to comply with new standards about size, capacity, color, accessories, price, safety features, storage, registration and special training requirements

Well, the city I live in is also 'Red' but in this case, it refers to the color of the stars on their armbands. And yes, they are already working on gun laws (and knife laws too, following a recent stabbing attack by a known nutcase---though afterwards the DA assured us all that most of the crazies on the street really aren't dangerous; and we shouldn't rush to 'judgmentalism'.)

Their recent policy is to issue signs reading "Gun-Free Zones" to local businesses---with of course the subtle threat that businesses who don't display such signs may face 'unofficial' consequences.

Washington State itself is a so-called 'Purple State' (though 'Lavender' might describe it better). I'm with you, though; I'm at the point where I'm tired of trying to reason with these dorks---it's almost better just to let nature take its course on them all.

Blax,

You need to pay more attention. None of those rifles are AR-15s. They are all caliber 22LR (ie plinking guns). The Marlin uses a box magazine that holds 7 rounds (of 22LR), the AR-7 uses a box magazine that holds 8 rounds (of 22LR). And if you read the letter carefully, they don't actually give him the option of switching to magazines that hold fewer rounds (assuming those magazines even exist).

What is the difference between confiscation and "get rid of them or else"? Really not much. You are spouting the typical liberal disingenuous line of nonsense.

Sure, he could move, but why on earth should you have to go somewhere else in a free country to own a 22 rifle, leaving behind your job, your friends, your family, and everything you have worked for, just because the government says?

You, sir, are ridiculous.
